Boot camp begins

I have been through most of the pre-op stuff for Roux en Y surgery. This last week I had a break through of why I was feeling down. I was having food funerals. By this I mean  last bite of this and oh I want that before surgery. Instead, I thought of all the things, food included , that had lead me to the place I am now. I said goodbye, shed a few tears because saying goodbye to anything is emotional, then decided to move on.

I had purchased a few different protein drink when I was at the hospital last week. I tried one of each type over the weekend and yesterday I went and picked up a 12 pk of the type I think I will be able to stomach. I am being told that my tastes will change after surgery and that texture will come into play during the two-three weeks of liquids. I have a few other drinks I can make up just in case. My pre- op diet also allows for prepackaged foods, soups, meals like Lean Cusine (but not) and snacks. I am to stick to the diet of breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack getting about 800 calories and bunches of protein. Water, decaf coffee or tea, and diet soda is allowed as well. I'm not much of  a soda drinker so I'm not worried about weaning myself off that.

Yes, right now it is all about the food.

I am finding ways not to think about it. I'm straightening up my house. Cleaning areas that haven't been touched in ages (cringe- behind and under the fridge). I'm sorting clothes, scrubbing walls and generally keeping busy. I did go to the Lighthouse Quilt guild meeting last night where Jenny Doan from the Missouri Star Quilt Co. Did a wonderful talk. If you have not heard of her, look her up on YouTube. She is for Quilting what The Yarn Harlot is to knitting. I laughed a lot and then stood in line to get a photo (and books signed). It was fun.

I start the diet tomorrow and will try to post any observations.

Sweetie, you've been challenged before and slain the dragon. You've proved that you have what it takes.
Take us, your friends, along on this journey. When you're down we'll pick you up. When you get to the brick wall, we'll help you scale it.
