Hodgepodge Wednesday

1. What's something you miss about the 1980's? If you're too young to miss the 80's how about the 90's?

I loved the 80's!  I graduated high school in 87. What do I miss? The music, the freedom, the fun. Hair bands were all the rage, we used to go to concerts at the Roxy and Florentine Gardens. The freedom, back then our parents would let us roam, it was just assumed that no one was home on a Friday or Saturday night. They knew we would be on Lancaster Blvd, cruisin' or out at Little Rock dam hanging with friends.

2. Do you have a library card? If so, how often do you visit?

Yes, I do have a library card. I used to use it a lot more than I do now. I don't think I have been to the library in over a year. Sad.

3. What's the secret to success?

Doing what you love. I don't equate success with money, though sometimes they go hand in hand. I equate it with happiness.
This takes me to a story that I read on a sign at all places, Jimmy Johns. It was about an American who went to a central American country and was talking to a fisherman. He asked what the man did each day. The man replied that he fished some, was home for naps in the afternoon and play with his children in the evening. The American asked how much the man made. The man replied, "enough to get by." The American then went on to explain how if the man applied himself, went to school, got a good job where he worked a lot and saved money he would be able to retire to a tropical island where he could then fish all day and be home for his grandchildren . The man from Central America just nodded and smiled.
Everyone has their own way of judging success. Mine is by the number of times I laugh in a day. I would rather be broke and happy than rich and have missed life.

4. This is National Backyard Games week...what's your favorite backyard game?

Horse shoes. I love to pitch horse shoes. I am not very good at it, but it is fun and I am competitive

5. If I dropped by today what would I find on your coffee table?

That I do not have a coffee table. No really. We got rid of it two years ago and my living room is much cleaner. I have two small ottomans that hold blankets and my laptop is sitting on one of them.

6. Do you own a bicycle? When was the last time you rode a bicycle? Is that something you enjoy?

Nope. I have a hard time riding a bike. We have been thinking of getting one of these.

7. What's your favorite cheese?

I am a mouse. I love cheese (except blue cheese). My favorite is a good smoked Gouda on a sesame cracker. YUM!!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Today the guy who stole my heart

I miss the positive energy (and physical energy) I had in the 80s. Nothing slowed me down and I was always up for an adventure.
I use my library card at least once a week. It is the best way to check out new music and explore books before spending money on a personal copy.
The library also hosts some amazing special programs.
Secret to success? Never quite!
Learn from mistakes and setbacks and try something different.
I grew up with JARTS and croquet. Would love to get a group of people over to play either.
On any flat surface in my house you would find books and crafting materials.
I own several bicycles in various forms. Those with tires have flat tires. I'd ride more if the seat was more comfortable.
Cheese! It is in my blood.
My favorites are the soft white cheeses, and marble jack.
I enjoy most others, but some in smaller doses, and not seasoned too hot.

I miss having time to blog and do fun meme parties like this.

Happy Memorial weekend!

I like that bike - it looks really fun but, the price tag is a bit steep - and I don't think I could pedal it up the hills here in TN. :) Please post if you get one!

Enjoy your blog.

Happy Memorial Day to you,
Abby

Happy Birthday to your little one!

Your success story reminds me of a time we were in Italy staying in the cutest little town on one of the lakes. We ate in a small restaurant in the heart of the village-adorable! and as we were talking to the owner he mentioned that his cousin had started Sbarros pizza chain in the US. My hubs asked if he'd ever been and he looked at us, pointed at the lake and asked, "Why would I ever want to leave here?" Perspective is everything : )
