Up for the challenge

I attended my second Weight Watchers meeting yesterday. I lost just over two pounds and feel good about what I accomplished. I didn't think much of the program when my sister went through it years ago; I thought it was just a cop-out where you went if you really couldn't loose weight. Now that I am older, I know that each person need encouragement and that this group is great for giving that. Also, I like to be held accountable for my actions. By weighing in each week, I am. I am also learning what a portion size is, why and how to read labels and how to eat only when my body tells me I need to instead of snacking just because it is there. This is hard for me as I have a husband who weighs less than he should and is always hungry. We have snacks galore in the house for him. Luck for me, I really don't like his kind of snacks so I can ignore them.
The Weight Watchers meeting leader gave us information about a 5k walk that is scheduled for June 6th, just 6 weeks away. I am going to try to do this. Though I cannot do it on June 6th, as that is my daughter’s grad party day and I will be very busy with that, I will see about doing it on Saturday the 5th. The challenge is to walk 5k or 3.1 miles in 45 minutes. Each week you walk 5 days adding distance and time to get you to walking the 3.1 miles. I will work towards the 45 minute goal. Even if I take longer in the end, I feel I will have fulfilled the challenge if I can walk 3.1 miles in 6 weeks time. I say this, because I am not one for walking long distances and I have to overcome my knee and ankle problems to achieve this goal. I want the charm that says I walked 5k, and damn it I will earn it!!
Today, after my dental appointment, I am going to go shopping for walking shoes. My feet have been in crocs or clogs for most of the last 3 years and my tennis shoes are not fitting all that great. Walking begins with your feet being happy, so I am off to get happy feet.

I am so proud of you for taking on this challenge. I'll bet that as you lose weight, the physical problems will dissipate.

Can't wait to read about your progress!!

Coggie, I'm down 30 lbs so far and here to cheer you on! A couple of mos. ago, a walk to the end of my street and back made my legs ache. Now I'm walking 3+ mi./day with no pain and astounding energy.

You can do this and you'll feel great. It has a snowball effect, so just stick with it as you get on a roll. Here's to healthier knitters!
