Random Dozen

1. Do you prefer to read the book or see the movie?

I love a good book. However, there are some I just can't get into and prefer to watch the movie.

2. What is your favorite holiday and why?

Groundhogs day. It is my Anniversary.

3. Which do you like better - the mountains or the beach?

Both. Here, we don't have mountains, but I am near the beach. I love the sounds of waves lapping on the lakeshore. I miss the crashing of the waves off the ocean though. I will say though I miss the mountains. More so now that we have just driven through them on the way to New York. I love vistas and the good breezes that flow through the mountain passes.

4. If money were no consideration, what vehicle would you drive?

site I got picture from

5. What is your favorite cold-weather beverage?

Russian tea

6. How do you communicate most often with your friends: phone, email, text, face-to-face, or Facebook?

Email or phone. I don't like to make phone calls, but my friends know this and call me.

7. How do you receive your mail? Mailbox on the porch, at the end of the driveway, down the street, or post office box?

Post box around the corner from my home.

8. Of the four basic personality types - sanguine, phlegmatic, melancholic, and choleric - which is your strongest? Which is your least evident?

I am a sanguine: The Sanguine temperament personality is fairly extroverted. People of a sanguine temperament tend to enjoy social gatherings, making new friends and tend to be quite loud. They are usually quite creative and often daydream. However, some alone time is crucial for those of this temperament. Sanguine can also mean very sensitive, compassionate and thoughtful. Sanguine personalities generally struggle with following tasks all the way through, are chronically late, and tend to be forgetful and sometimes a little sarcastic. Often, when pursuing a new hobby, interest is lost quickly when it ceases to be engaging or fun. They are very much people persons. They are talkative and not shy. For some people, these are the ones you want to be friends with and usually they become life long friends.

The one I relate least to is Choleric

Nothing. I have earned every sag, bag and grey hair I dye!

We'll just soldier on without him."

5. Share a high school or college homecoming memory.

Depends on what you believe. For me, no. I believe what I believe and go forward from that.

"You're My Home"

When you look into my eyes
And you see the crazy gypsy in my soul
It always comes as a surprise
When I feel my withered roots begin to grow
Well I never had a place that I could call my very own
That's all right, my love, 'cause you're my home

When you touch my weary head
And you tell me everything will be all right
You say, "Use my body for your bed
And my love will keep you warm throughout the night"
Well I'll never be a stranger and I'll never be alone
Whenever we're together, that's my home

Home can be the Pennsylvania Turnpike
Indiana's early morning dew
High up in the hills of California
Home is just another word for you

Well I never had a place that I could call my very own
That's all right, my love, 'cause you're my home

If I travel all my life
And I never get to stop and settle down
Long as I have you by my side
There's a roof above and good walls all around
You're my castle, you're my cabin and my instant pleasure dome
I need you in my house 'cause you're my home.
You're my home.

You're my home.

Wednesday Wickness On Thursday

Today we picked Phil Jackson. Here's Wednesday Wickedness!
1. "Always keep an open mind and a compassionate heart.” Do you ALWAYS keep an open mind?

I try to keep an open mind. There are certain things I do not budge on.

2. “Wisdom is always an over match for strength.” Who is the wisest person you know? Who is the strongest?

My father was the wisest person I ever knew. Now, I am not sure. Each of my friends are wise in different ways. The person I turn to the most for anything is my husband.
Strongest is harder. I am surrounded by strong people.

3. "Yes, victory is sweet, but it doesn't necessarily make life any easier the next season or even the next day." Do you think a successful day at your job makes the next day better or not?

I think you take each day as it comes. There is no need for worry about the future or regret in the past. What is, is.

4. "...True joy comes from being fully present in each and every moment, not just when things are going your way." How would we tell by your behavior if you are having a bad day?

I get quiet. I do vent to friends, but on a truly bad day, I get very quiet.

5. "I gave it my body and mind, but I have kept my soul." Do you have days when you feel you gave it your all, but may have compromised your values?

No. I can give all but there are very few times I have ever compromised my values. I have a line in the sand that just doesn't get crossed.

6. "Your problems never cease. They just change." What do you feel is your biggest problem at the moment?

LOL, the blog is not long enough nor do I have time! Let me just say, my husband is deployed, my daughter is graduating, my son just started a new job and I have finals in college next week. What problems? *twitch*

7. "My dad always had this little sign on his desk: "The bigger your head is, the easier your shoes are to fill." He really drilled that in." Does your ego sometimes get in your way?

I try to keep it under control *grin*

8. "There is a saying that I love...It says: "There are no Zen masters, there's only Zen." "Zen master" is a contradiction in terms. You don't master Zen." Do you believe in Zen? If yes, can it be mastered?

I believe there is a calm that comes from introspection and meditation. I can get this calm when I sit and knit. It is a time that nothing good or bad goes through my mind, a time of just being. If that is Zen, then yes, I believe. Can it be mastered? Why try. Zen is Zen.

9. "You can not teach competitiveness." Do you believe you could teach someone, like your child, to be competitive?

I think it is ingrained. I think my kids are competitive, however, they know that winning is not everything. That if you do your best then you have achieved the best you can do.

10. "Home is where the heart is, right?” Obviously Phil didn't originate this quote. He said it when asked if he'd retire after this season. Do you believe home is not a place but rather a state of mind?

Yes!!
Being military I have several places I call home. California, because that is where I spent my teenage years. Michigan, because that is where we live right now. Really what home is to me is summed up in this song by Billy Joel.

Let's Party!! Random Dozen

You can join in the fun on Linda's Blog.

1. Would you rather host party or simply attend a party?

Hard question. I like both. I like to give a good party and I like to go to friends houses for parties. I am not much for the type of parties you have to "dress to the nines" for but regular, hang out and have fun. Either way works for me.

2. Tell us about the most memorable party you've been to.

Halloween parties. I love dressing up in costumes and hanging with friends. Traditions of Halloween goes back to high school, but even now I love the holiday and the parties that surround it.

3. What is one thing you hope for in the after-life?

That it doesn't happen for a really long time. I have too much to live for.

4. What do you enjoy most about sunshine?

Sunshine makes me happy. Since moving to Michigan, I get S.A.D. in the winter. My mood is better and I am a happier person when the sun comes out and warms my face.

5. When you attend a bridal/baby shower, do you prefer to bring your own gift or chip in with others to buy a larger gift?

I almost always make my gift. I don't like gift cards and chipping in on presents in the past has left me burned, so as a crafter, I give of myself, my time and my creativity.

6. Would you rather have a FREE week of having your house cleaned or all of your meals cooked for you and your family?

I am not the greatest housekeeper there is. My house isn't filthy, but it sure is messy and cluttered. A week of a housekeeper please!! I love to cook and am way to picky to share my kitchen with someone, but the house, really I need this. I am thinking of hiring a housecleaning crew before the Sarge comes home, after I get organized, so he has a spotless house to walk into.

7. What song describes your mood today?

Red Red Wine
Today was great until I went to college. This quarter is killing me. After class I had to ask the instructor if I was even going to pass the class. I am not one that normally struggles, especially not in math. Algebra 2 is kicking my ass. I will pass but I have to work hard to make the grade. Upon getting home and deciding I was not going out again, I uncorked a bottle of wine and we will see how much it takes to get me in a good mood again.

8. What is something you received for your own bridal shower/wedding that you still own or use?

We only got two presents when we were married. Towels from my dad which are still in use and blenders from my brother and his family. One blender died and I had to replace it but the other is the best drink maker I have ever owned.

9. Your favorite flavor of ice cream is?

Real french vanilla bean.

10. When was the last time you felt "tested?"

Every single day. Right now I am being tested on patience and longevity. I think I am hanging in pretty well.

11. "[Fill in the blank] is a food that once I start eating I find really hard to stop."

Rice Krispy treats. If I make them (rarely) I will pig out until they are gone.

12. "-----" is the best motivation.

Competition!! I like a challenge and coming from a large family, I love to compete.

Way Random ...Wednesday on Saturday

1. Please share one memory of your high school graduation. Pics would be great!

No pictures, have no idea where that album is right now. Memory though I can do. We had our graduation on the football field. It was grass and not to level. I was not sure if I was more afraid of falling in the heels I wore or of the wind flipping my dress up. I remember getting the diploma holder and then having to go afterwards to pick up the actual diploma. That way no one got the wrong one. After party was at my house. Nothing like the open houses here, it was an actual party. Lots of us drank too much, but it was fun.

2. What is one "emergency use" item you keep in your vehicle at all times?

Honesty and open communication lines.

2. Why is it called a "drive-through" if you have to stop? (Real question: What was the last food/drink you purchased at a drive-through?)

Vanilla Soy Latte this morning

3. As I type this, the Butler Bulldogs are getting ready to play in the NCAA championship game. Every Hoosier is hysterical about this except me. So in honor of the Bulldogs ... what is your favorite breed of dog? (I tried.)

I love labs, St. Bernards and Basset hounds. Basset puppies are the best as the walk on their ears :) So adorable.

4. If you had to move to a state besides the one you currently live in, where would you move?

New Mexico. I love the desert south west.

5. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?

Oh hard question! I am who I am because of the way I was raised. But one thing I would change going back is that I would have listened to my parents more. I used to think they were lecturing me when really they were giving me tried and true advice.

6. Who's the funniest person you know?

My husband

7. Did you get enough sleep last night?

Enough, is there such a thing? I slept very poorly last night due to not feeling well. I should have taken a knock out drug, but I knew I had to be up early this morning.

8. What's the first thing you thought about this morning?

That I had to get Boo to work and Sarge to the dentist.

9. Grilled or Fried? --HONESTLY

Honestly, it depends. I love grilled meat, veggies and bananas--yes bananas.
Here is how I make a grilled banana spit:

Take a banana still in the skin over a grill, Heat until warm all over.
It will mush out a bit when done.
Peel it and put hot banana mush in a bowl, top with cold vanilla ice cream, fudge and caramel. Put cherry juice and two cherries on top.
OMG yum!!
Don't knock it til you've tried it!!

Oh- and here is a healthier version that I will be having now that I am on a diet.

On the other hand, I love fried. Fried zucchini, green beans, cauliflower, carrots. Good non greasy fried chicken. YUM. Now I mostly eat "oven fried" but it is not the same. Every once in a while you just have to be bad.

11.When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Anything but a mom. Really, I didn't want kids until I became pregnant. Now I know they are my life.
As for a career, I wanted and still want to own my own business. I do not like working for someone else.

12. If you had one word to describe yourself , what would you choose?

Knowledgeable.

Over the years I have had many people refer to me as a Know-it-all. This can be a bad thing, but I have learned to accept that I am knowledgeable on a lot of different things. I now take that phrase as I am sure my friends intend it and ignore the people who mean it in a degrading way. I do not look at it as being all knowing, as I am not, but I am a jack of all trades, master of none.
